The 495, 95, and 395 Express Lanes serve thousands of daily commuters across the Washington D.C. metro area — but toll road information lived across two separate websites, messaging was complicated, and the brand lacked an identity drivers could connect with.
The project involved a full content audit, information architecture redesign, interface (UI) design, Drupal CMS build, and multiple rounds of usability testing — all centered on simplifying the experience for drivers paying tolls, finding lane information, and navigating a newly unified brand.
The result was an award-winning website, recognized with a Communicator Award of Distinction, and a launch that drove 227,433 customers to the 395 Express Lanes in its opening week.
